For some reason i never have been able to trust anything the government says or anyone running for president?

Skepticism is good. Politicians can be a pack of chancers. In order to tame skepticism you should try to underpin your suspicions with knowledge about politics, economics and sociology. Also pick up a paper whenever you have a chance. This way you will be able to pick up what is rubbish, who not to trust ,whats true and what sounds like a good policy.
